Originally located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Nova University of Advanced Technology quickly outgrew its initial footprint and moved to Davie, Florida. Founded in 1977, Keiser University was created by Arthur Keiser with support from his mother, Evelyn. Originally known as the Keiser School, Keiser University was opened as a career college. For the first few years of Keiser University’s operation, the school only offered job training. This changed in 1986 when the school added associate degree programs into its curriculum. With their associate degree programs in high demand, the school began to expand the breadth of degree programs made available to students. After adding an array of undergraduate and graduate options, the school’s name was finally changed to Keiser University in 2006. Today, Keiser University is home to many students enrolled in many different programs.

“To be, rather than to seem to be” is the motto of the University of Tampa, one of Florida’s top universities. Founded in 1930, the University of Tampa was established as the Tampa Junior College. One of the first institutions of higher learning in the Tampa Bay area, the University of Tampa spearheaded a trend of helping Tampa locals get a high-quality education. In 1933, a deal was struck to purchase the Tampa Bay Hotel to act as the campus for the University of Tampa. Since then, the University of Tampa has resided within the old Tampa Bay Hotel, which adds to the unique look and feel of the campus. Over the years, the school steadily grew, eventually adding more academic programs, prompting the school to be renamed. Still a major part of the Tampa Bay area downtown, the University of Tampa is home to a student body of just over 10,000 students.

Established in 1925, the University of Miami is among the oldest private universities in Florida. Believing that creating a local university would be beneficial to the community, a group of Miami citizens began working to raise money and find a location for what would become the University of Miami. In 1925, George E. Merrick donated five million dollars and a plot of land. In its early years, the University of Miami went through many hardships, due to financial concerns and damages from hurricanes. However, by the middle of the century, the school had begun to hit its stride. Now, the University of Miami is consistently ranked among some of the top universities in the nation. Home to the Hurricanes, the University of Miami enrolls a student body of almost 17,000 students.

The University of Florida is a private institution. Students at the University of Miami have many different academic programs to choose from when enrolling in the university. Students can choose from 116 different undergraduate programs, 105 master’s degrees, and 63 doctoral degree programs.
