Born out of the San Fransico Art Association, the San Francisco Art Institute was established in 1871. Before establishing the San Fransico Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Association was a group of influential artists from the city of San Francisco who worked together to promote the arts within the city. Over the years, the San Francisco Art Institute influenced artistry within the city and all of California. Located in the Russian Hill district of San Francisco, the San Francisco Art Institute has remained a small but focused university. Today, approximately 600 students are enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Students at the San Francisco Art Institute can enroll in various educational programs. Students can choose from Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts, and Master of Fine Arts programs in various arts, including photography, painting, music, and much more. The San Francisco Art Institute offers several of these programs to students online, making it one of our top online universities in California.
