Eastern Kentucky University

Eastern Kentucky University was accredited in 1928 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The institution began as a teacher’s college, but was approved in 1966 to offer graduate degrees in areas other than teaching. The university offers online degrees at the associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate levels. Associate’s degrees are available in Police, Paralegal, and General Studies. Ten bachelor’s degrees are offered in subject areas that cover the law enforcement field, fire protection and safety, homeland security, paralegal studies, and psychology. The university offers 11 master’s degree programs in education, nursing, library science, and emergency management. Students may earn a doctorate in the areas of nursing and occupational therapy. Certificate and non-credit programs are also available online.

Tuition for online bachelor’s degree programs is $395 per credit hour. Master’s level education and library science courses are $460 per credit hour while emergency management, nursing, and corrections courses are $570 per credit hour. Tuition for doctorate courses is $590 per credit hour. Online degree students may qualify for federal and state financial aid, military benefits, and tuition reimbursement through an employer. East Kentucky University also offers institutional scholarships.

Applicants to the bachelor’s and associate’s degree programs are required to have at least completed high school or have a GED. Home schooled students must have completed an approved home school curriculum and have minimum SAT scores of 430 in writing, 470 in reading, and 460 in math. ACT scores may also be accepted if the student scored a minimum of an 18 in English, a 20 in reading, and a 19 in math. Graduate school admissions vary based on program, but generally require completion of a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution with a 3.0 or higher and submission of GMAT or GRE scores. Education programs require the candidate to have completed the Kentucky teaching certification requirements.
