After completing a Bachelor’s in Health Informatics, students can enter into a career as a Health Informatics Consultant.   In this career, students will work to maintain the health informatics infrastructure of an institution.  This covers a wide-variety of tasks including updating and maintaining the institution’s network, updating and installing software, monitoring systems, as well as training staff members in proper handling of sensitive healthcare information.  Think of this position as an IT Professional for a healthcare organization.

Health Informatics Director

A step up from the role of Health Informatics Consultant, the Health Informatics Director deals in sweeping policy-change as well as the stewardship and guidance of an institution’s health informatics infrastructure.  Health Informatics Directors will work at the executive-level of the organization to write and shape the policies that will inform the handling of healthcare information.  They will choose the technology systems employed by the organization and will ensure for the safe maintenance and handling of healthcare data.

Chief Medical Information Officer

One of the most senior-level jobs along the Health Informatics track, the Chief Medical Information Officer is primarily responsible for the maintenance of all healthcare data.  They will work to conduct data analytics designed to assess and improve the quality of the IT infrastructure of the healthcare organization.  They will also work to ensure that they are in compliance with various IT governance boards, as well as work to design, apply, and train software systems for healthcare environments.

Electronic Medical Record Keeper

A more entry-level position within the field of Health Informatics, the Electronic Medical Record Keeper is in charge of the entrance and maintenance of electronic medical records.  Electronic Medical Record Keepers will work to input data related to specific patients into healthcare information systems.  They will also make sure that the data is kept accurate, up-to-date, and includes all the relevant details.  This is a great entry-level position within the field of Health Informatics.

Nursing Informatics Specialist

As a Nursing Informatics Specialist, you will be charged with properly training the nursing staff within an organization on proper Health Informatics techniques and systems.  Similar to a Health Informatics Consultant, Nursing Informatics Specialists will work with the nurses in an organization to train them on record-keeping protocol, while also helping them learn to properly maintain patient care plans.
