For our 2016 Online Doctorates in Business Administration award winners, we selected online programs from accredited, nonprofit colleges and universities and have ranked the programs according to their affordability.

This ranking primarily includes  Doctor of Business Administration programs though we also include some related programs such as PhDs in Business Administration, Doctor of Management programs, etc. The Doctor of Business Administration is a terminal level academic degree that focuses on the theory and practice of business and is designed for individuals moving to the highest positions in business or transitioning from a business to academic career.  For those who are seeking academic careers, it is vital to choose a program that is accredited at the program level by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, or the The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  Nearly all academic business institutions employing faculty will look for these accreditations even if their own programs are not accredited.

Distance learning programs leading to a Doctor of Business Administration or similar degrees are yet uncommon.  However, because increasing needs of working professionals to advance their education, we expect more and more schools to begin offering these programs in the future.

Located in Melbourne, Florida and founded in 1958, the Florida Institute of Technology is a private doctoral-research university well-known for its programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The schools serves approximately 5,000 students on-campus almost equally divided between undergraduate and graduate programs. Ranked among the best national doctoral-granting universities in the United States, Florida Tech has more than 60,000 alumni. These include a director of a NASA center, five astronauts and several candidates, a National Teacher of the Year recipient, the first female four-star general, and other professionals that work as pilots, scientists, engineers, and managers in many high-technology enterprises.

Program Overview
The Doctor of Business Administration program, a Florida Institute of Technology is a professional degree that prepares students with the advanced knowledge necessary to manage complex corporate environments. The program provides education for professionals with at least five years of managerial experience interested in becoming leaders in business, government, education, healthcare and non-profit industries. Students in the DBA program apply theory, advanced research skills, and an understanding of the challenges facing the public and private business sectors to develop their skills and eventually prepare a dissertation. A minimum of 42 credits are required for completion of the degree. Though classwork can be completed online, cohorts will meet once per semester for intensive peer to peer learning.

Wilmington University is a private, nonprofit research university founded in 1968. WU is located in Wilmington, Deleware and has affiliated campuses across the state of Deleware and in Maryland and New Jersey. The university enrolls over 19,200 students annually and offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a variety of academic and professional disciplines through seven distinct colleges.

Program Overview
The Doctor of Business Administration program offered by Wilmington University’s College of Business is a part-time program designed for experienced managers, professionals, and educators who are employed in business, nonprofits, government, military, healthcare, higher education, and a variety of other organizations. The program helps students attain the insights and skills that are needed to advance to executive or professional leadership positions. Hampton University is a private, nonprofit, historically black university located in Hampton, Virginia, United States. It was founded in 1868 by black and white leaders of the American Missionary Association after the American Civil War to provide education to freedmen. In 1878 it established a program for teaching Native Americans, which lasted until 1923. Today the university enrolls over 5,000 students.

Program Overview
The PhD in Business Administration is designed for professionals who desire an advanced degree in business to excel in their careers. In addition, the program responds to current MBA or technical graduate students aspiring to become consultants or professors. The program also appeals to existing professionals who aspire to an advanced degree to enhance leadership roles in administrative positions. During the first and second year of the program students will need to be in residence on campus for four weeks mid July through mid August. All other coursework can be completed online. A minimum of 61 credits are required for completion of the degree, but depending on the length of time required for completion of the dissertation, the program may require as many as 81 credits.

When including the number of online matriculated students (90,000 as of May 2013), Liberty University is the nation’s largest private nonprofit university and the world’s largest Evangelical Christian university.

Located in Mobile, Alabama, the University of South Alabama is a public research university founded in 1963. USA offers over 90 programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate level through 10 colleges and enrolls over 16,000 students.

Program Overview
The Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama offers a Doctor of Business Administration program, with a Management Concentration that is designed for business professionals and instructor-level faculty seeking a doctorate to pursue an academic career through 4-year universities. The program facilitates the transition toward a new career by developing a comprehensive understanding discipline. Classes meet the last weekend or the first weekend of each month with students arriving on Thursday evening. Keiser University was formerly a for-profit school technology institute until 2011 when it was sold by founder Arthur Keiser to Everglades College, Inc., a non-profit entity. Keiser is located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and was founded as a career college with a focus on business and the health care professions. Currently, the university offers a variety of degrees at the undergraduate and graduate level, and was recently recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as a top southern choice for veterans.

Program Overview
Keiser University‘s Doctor of Business Administration degree program enables students to contribute to the business profession and the business educational profession through independent learning, scholarship, and research. Students are required to select one of the three specializations. Students take seven core courses for 21 credit hours (common to all specializations), 9 credit hours in research, 18 credit hours in their respective specialization, and 12 hours in the dissertation. Saint Leo University is a Roman Catholic liberal arts university located in Saint Leo, Florida. Founded in 1889 by a group of Benedictine monks, it is the oldest Catholic college in Florida. The university only enrolls about 3,000 students at its main campus, but enrolls approximately 16,000 worldwide, most of which are military-related. The university operates dozens of military base education centers, 17 continuing education centers in 7 states, as well as their global online campus.

The Doctor of Business Administration program offered through Saint Leo’s Donald R. Tapia School of Business is designed to prepare students for a teaching career at the college or university level, a leadership position in academia, or advancement as a business executive or consultant. The Davis College of Business at Jacksonville University offers a ​​Doctor of Business Administration program where candidates practice using analytical tools to solve current work problems and challenges. The program is ideal for executives, aspiring consultants, policy makers, or “clinical” or applied faculty desiring positions in schools of business internationally. The 60 credit hour Davis DBA can be earned in a minimum of 3 years—two years in classes and the final year(s) working directly with their dissertation advisor. Davis DBA classes will meet once a month all day Friday and Saturday. Program Overview
The Doctor of Business Administration in Finance  at Sacred Heart University is an applied research doctoral degree designed for finance executives and advanced business professionals to expand and deepen their knowledge and to acquire state-of-the-art qualifications for furthering their careers.‌ The DBA uses a unique student cohort model, hands-on learning laboratories and blended “executive program” style meeting formats to encourage collaboration and networking among colleagues. During the first two years of the program, the weekend residency focuses on face-to-face classroom instruction, while independent research and dissertation preparation take center stage in the DBA’s final year. To fit the schedules of busy working professionals, most classes in the three-year, part-time program will meet at our Stamford Graduate Center at Landmark Square, five Fridays and Saturdays each trimester. A minimum of 63 credits are required for completion of the program.
